Have you met your future self yet?
I’m going to introduce you guys to one another today.
But before we start, I’d like to share a fun fact about ambition.
Have you noticed the gap between our daily goals and the ones we set for our future self? We all do this. We tend to draw a giant to-do list to complete within a day. But then we struggle to accurately project what we can achieve in the longer term.
Our daily ambitions are too big. Yet our yearly ambitions are too small.
And that’s exactly why we feel we haven’t moved forward. It’s the reason we don’t evolve enough from one year to another: because we lack a macro vision for our lives.
We keep the same job, the same house, the same friends. We have the same habits, the same concerns, the same doubts.
But the thing is… A year is a long time. It’s 365 days that you could use to change things, achieve things and learn new things to bring you closer to your ambition and future self.
So, what gives?
Transformation is an action plan.
But it has to start somewhere.
The difference between the you of today and the you of the future is threefold:
⚡️The vision you have for yourself. This includes everything you want to experience and create in the next 365 days.
⚡️ The clarity of that vision. This is made up of the choices and actions that will let you materialize the vision and soothe your decision process.
⚡️ The determination you’ll nurture along the road. This is what keeps the motion going.
Side note: Determination is not a character trait you either have or don’t have. We can all feel and develop it. Determination is how we find motivation and courage every day to face setbacks and surprises; to manage our resources and build agility.
Your goal is to use these next 365 days in the best way possible WITHOUT a tradeoff on what makes you happy!
So take a bath, meet friends, go for a walk, have a break, experience gratitude… You need to experience the stuff that makes you feel good throughout the year. It’s part of the support system that’s key to achieving what you want.
It’s not a race or a performance. It’s more like a marathon.
For example, when I look back on my last 356 days:
💪 In a year, I grew my solo business by 18% thanks to consulting projects and coaching programs.
💪 In a year, I produced new group coaching programs around self-leadership.
💪 In a year, I created a completely new business and leadership framework for my 1:1 container and onboarded 10 clients.
💪 In a year, I wrote weekly content while running a podcast with fantastic guests!
💪 In a year, I structured my business further to create sustainable and supportive growth.
💪 In a year, I read 30 or so books to deepen my business and coaching practice.
💪 In a year, I set up a project to buy and fully renovate a building with my partner.
But while doing all of this I was extra careful to plan time to rest, learn, think, breathe and laugh. I also did yoga at least four times a week, spent as much time as I could with my loved ones, went on holidays, and fed my soul with culture, therapy and coaching…
What a program, hey??
It was part of my plan for the year. A vision I could nurture for 365 days using my determination and support system.
That’s how I kept my direction with clarity when things started to get blurry, hectic, surprising… Basically, when life got in the way.
I know it all looks good from the outside, but it doesn’t even start to describe who I became last year.
That’s maybe what I appreciate the most.
Because none of the above was an easy ride.
I experienced doubts, failures, worries and barriers that popped up constantly on my journey.
But the commitment to my vision helped me overcome every one of them.
And that’s exactly what I consider to be a transformational year, when I can look back and observe:
💪 All the ways I grew and moved forward.
💪 All the doubts and worries I overcame.
💪 All the barriers I crossed.
💪 All the skills I developed or practiced.
💪 All the ways I became stronger than last year.
If you want this year to serve you, so you can create the life that makes you become more YOU, you need to start somewhere…
And I like to start with this question:
Plug into your imagination, because in this exercise there’s no limit.
Take a pen and start designing what kind of person you’ll become by answering the following questions.
(I recommend you write them down. There’s another level of integration when we write stuff down.)
In a year’s time…
And finally: what could prevent you from doing all these things?
As your mind wandered through these questions, I bet some fired you up while others triggered you.
This is just the beginning
You might not have a super clear answer right away… But you don’t have to. That’s completely normal.
Try to really answer these questions, though – they’re a total game-changer when you approach them with radical honesty.
But don’t bring pressure to the process. Create the space to answer them. Giving yourself room where everything is possible is a major step. It’s a gift to yourself.
This is the beginning of your big plan for your life, career or business. It’s how you’ll start to build the list of goals you want to achieve this year. It all starts today with meeting your future self and asking, “What would be an awesome, 100% authentic option that we could start now?”
Voila! This is the process I propose to my coachees. If you want help with this, you can always slide into my DMs or join the workshops I organize.
We’ll dig into the strategies, tactics and mindset that will make room for your ambition, set yourself up for success, and help you achieve your goals.
It’s a safe space where you’ll get laser-sharp coaching while taking action to start building your transformation system.
You’ll develop your focus to create long-term change with consistency and make faster decisions.
And all you need is a notebook and a pen…
Et voila! I hope you have fun meeting your future self and designing your ambition!
